Workflow Automation
Increased efficiency through wide format printer software
Big Image Australia is a large format digital printer dedicated to serving the Australian graphics industry as a trade only supplier.
The company offers a wide range of large format print products from dye sublimated flags and fabric displays, to PVC banners, mesh, adhesive stickers, wall coverings and much more. The production takes place in a 1500 sqm facility. Machines from HP and Fujifilm, among others, are used for this purpose.
The OneVision Highlights
Job files for wide format printing are usually very large and – without automation – require many manual preparation steps. In order to future-proof its operations, Big Image Australia decided to follow the road to automation. With the Wide Format Automation Suite, the print service provider achieves:
- Seamless integration of all systems involved
- Increased efficiency due to automated file processing
- Intelligent nesting without manual intervention
- Smooth running end-to-end workflow
Challenges for Big Image Australia
- Files are delivered via client email and FTP, Dropbox or physically, requiring prepress staff to manually open files to check for issues
- Majority of the preflight and file processing was manual
- A physical proof was printed and sent to production
- Manual nesting and setup of cut files by the print operators
- Lack of connectivity to production devices
Solutions for Big Image Australia
- Workflow now runs with a drop folder system to automatically resolve issues
- Reduction of lead time thanks to automation of preflight and file processing
- Faster response time for the creation of a proof for the client
- Automatic nesting and cut line management
- Direct connection to the diverse system landscape

Automated bleed printing
The software checks the print file using the trim box or any other trim line. The necessary bleed for printing is intelligently generated automatically by pixel mirroring or pixel stretching.
